Transformation

Transformation

Process

  • The conceptual foundation for 2023’s symposium flyers centered on the theme of “Transformation,” interpreted as a dramatic shift in form or appearance. The design team drew inspiration from the vibrant aesthetics of 1960s Pop Art, known for its bold colors and energetic patterns. To capture this spirit, the flyers prominently feature repetitive abstract swirl motifs. These swirlies evoke both the dynamic motion of flowing paint and the visual of split paint—a metaphor for breaking apart established forms to create something new.

  • A great deal of care went into the color selection process. Each hue was chosen not just for its visual appeal, but also to ensure that every color would stand out independently while contributing to a cohesive overall palette. This intentional use of contrast and repetition mirrors the philosophy of transformation: individual elements are distinct, yet together they create a striking unity.

  • The design process also emphasized experimentation and boundary-pushing. By adopting non-traditional, abstract patterns and vivid color combinations, the flyers challenge the viewer’s expectations and encourage a sense of possibility. This approach aligns with the symposium’s mission to question societal norms and inspire bold new perspectives. The resulting flyers are not only visually compelling but also serve as an invitation to embrace change and celebrate creative reinvention.
